Jumping Bean

It did not take long to fall into a lovely pattern once again of having a baby in our house.  Bram was a love and a half.

A few days after he came to stay with us, I got a text from Baby O's new foster mom with pictures.  I was so very thankful that she remembered her promise.  We made plans to go out to dinner with the babies.  I was so happy to hold both Baby O and Bram together (and impressed that I could carry 30+ lbs at the same time!)

Our house quickly returned to looking like a house with a baby.  Bottles were in the dishwasher. Baby food was in the pantry.  Toys were... everywhere!  Bram's favorite, favorite toy was the baby exerciser, the baby bouncer, which we lovingly called his "jumpy jump."  He would bounce and bounce, smiling and laughing, and of course, spitting up profusely.

His mother gave us an explanation:  he was tongue tied.  "Tongue tied" is when the connective tissue under your tongue is either too tight or too close to the front of your mouth, causing a baby not to be able to use his tongue to suck in a normal way.  Instead, he mostly gulps which gives him a lot of milk and and a lot of air, thus the spitting up.  Her oldest son had had it too (I guess it was genetic) and he had to have it cut surgically when he was four.  Unfortunately, it caused him some speech delays.  We decided we would bring it up at his doctor appointment and see if we could get a referral.

When Bram jumped, we would sing to him:

He's a jumpin' beanHe's a bouncin' machine
He's Bramio, Brami-o-o

Who's the little fella that we love so much?
Cuter than a bunny in a bunny hutch
Who's the little guy that we love so?
He's Bramio, Bramio, Brami-o-o

Who's sweeter than a cookie on a cookie sheet?
Tickle his belly and tickle his feet
Who's the little boy that we love so?
He's Bramio, Bramio, Brami-o-o!

The Song that Inspired It .  This was based on a song I remembered from Sesame Street (Obviously I changed "Cody" to "Bram.") .
